A brief history of the houses …..

There are two houses nestled into the hill against which the village perches. These have been rebuilt from the ruins of the original dwelling. Because this side of the village is classified as “protected” (since it looks out to the classified site of the Dentelles de Montmirail and since it is on the same side of the village as the church which is a monument classe), it was necessary to have the direction of design and the permission to rebuild from the Architecte des Batiments de France. Because of this historic demand, the roofline follows that of the original house as it descended the hill over 4 levels. The two houses are separated by a small road across which there is an archway, making a charming ensemble.

Carpe Diem extends over three levels and has four double bedrooms and three bathrooms.

Entering at street level, one sees:

  • a wide staircase leading to the first floor
  • at the left are large double doors leading to an apartment
  • towards the back of the entrance hall is a small passageway leading to the large laundry (washing machine, dryer, professional ironing press), the wine cellar, and a connecting door into the double garage fitted with a workshop and a bike storage room

The first floor, all rooms of which look out to views of the hills, consists of:

  • a magnificently equipped provencal kitchen with central island with bar stools on one side, stove, oven, microwave, large espresso coffee machine, dualit toaster, health grill, sink, dishwasher, large refrigerator and freezer
  • a sitting room area with open fireplace, satellite TV, DVD/CD player and music
  • an elegant dining area
  • french doors open to a large terrace with views out to the Dentelles and up to the higher part of the village ending with the church which is floodlit at night. There is an outdoor eating area with a cabanon concealing a gas barbecue. A spiral staircase descends to the large plunge pool outside the apartment
  • on the other side of the kitchen is a staircase leading to the next floor, a reading area with floor to ceiling bookcase and desk with telephone connection and a passageway leading to two double bedrooms sharing a bathroom with a pedestal bath. Both bedrooms have balacchin wrought iron 6ft wide beds and one has a sofa and desk with telephone connection at one end

The apartment consists of a large L-shaped space comprising:

  • bedroom with 6ft wide balachin bed, built-in cupboards and provencal commode
  • a study area with large desk and telephone connection
  • an eating area looking out to the hills
  • a lounging area with Conran sofa, satellite TV, video player, music
  • a concealed kitchenette with sink, stove and refrigerator
  • a bathroom with shower and toilet

There are French doors opening to an elevated terrace with large plunge pool with view to the hills.

The top floor consists of;

  • a second entrance to the house leading to a higher tiny street
  • a landing leading to a double bedroom with ensuite bath room
  • a private terrace overlooking the hills and up to the church

The house is filled with books and comfortable furniture and is part of the holiday refuge of an extended family. They are maintained in the absence of the family by a family unit of husband and wife of whom any sort of assistance may be asked.

Baby cot, high chair and car seat are available if required. Linen of the highest quality is provided as is cleaning.
