A brief history of the houses …..
There are two houses nestled into the hill against which the village perches. These have been rebuilt from the ruins of the original dwelling. Because this side of the village is classified as “protected” (since it looks out to the classified site of the Dentelles de Montmirail and since it is on the same side of the village as the church which is a monument classe), it was necessary to have the direction of design and the permission to rebuild from the Architecte des Batiments de France. Because of this historic demand, the roofline follows that of the original house as it descended the hill over 4 levels. The two houses are separated by a small road across which there is an archway, making a charming ensemble.
All rooms in Vieille Amie open through French doors on to an enormous paved terrace:
- there is a large stone table to seat up to 10 with wrought iron armchairs
- a cabanon which contains a barbecue
- at one end of the terrace, there is a sunken parterre garden ending beside the old well and a wall with a small fountain
- at the other end of the terrace is a large plunge pool which looks out to the limestone mountains framed by an almond tree.
There are three double bedrooms and three bathrooms:
- the main bedroom (with double bed):
- an ensuite bathroom (with bath, shower, bidet and toilet)
- a library with desk and telephone connection on a mezzanine accessed by a wooden staircase
- the second bedroom (with double bed) uses the shower and separate toilet off the passageway
- the third bedroom (with two single beds) has an ensuite shower, toilet and hand basin
There is a large open-plan living room with:
- a dining area with pear wood table and six chairs
- a fireplace and bookshelves
- satellite TV and video player, CD player and discs
- a well equipped kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, Dualit toaster, espresso coffee machine, dishwasher, refrigerator and separate freezer
There is a washing machine and clothes dryer.
The house is filled with books and comfortable furniture and is part of the holiday refuge of an extended family. They are maintained in the absence of the family by a family unit of husband and wife of whom any sort of assistance may be asked.
Baby cot, high chair and car seat are available if required. Linen of the highest quality is provided as is cleaning.
